Feasibility studies

Feasibility studies

The purpose of a feasibility study is to answer a simple question: does a given PV plant project make technical and economic sense under the specific conditions.

Analyses of varying levels of detail

We understand that the required depth of analysis can vary – from a quick assessment of site potential to a broader study including costs, revenues, BESS and risk scenarios. That is why we offer four levels of support.

BASIC package

Objective: quick, early-stage assessment of site potential.

In the BASIC package we prepare a simplified analysis of possible layout options for the site in PV design software such as PVcase (or equivalent).

The work focuses on:

  • preliminary table layout and DC configuration,

  • maximising energy yield within defined constraints,

  • basic estimation of material requirements (quantities) on the DC side – structures, modules, DC cabling at a high level.

This is a good option when you need to:

  • check whether a site has any realistic potential for a PV plant at all,

  • compare several plots or concepts in a very early project phase.

ADVANCED package

Objective: link site layout with the real cost of the DC part.

The ADVANCED package includes everything in BASIC and additionally covers:

  • pricing of key materials on the DC side (structures, modules, cabling, BOS DC),

  • installation cost estimates for DC works at a level appropriate for a feasibility study.

As a result:

  • you compare not only the energy yield of each option, but also its DC cost,

  • you can immediately eliminate configurations that may look attractive in terms of yield but are not economically justified on the DC side.

The final report may therefore differ from BASIC not only in scope, but also in the variants we recommend.

ADVANCED+ package

Objective: bring BESS and the AC side into the economic picture.

The ADVANCED+ package includes the full ADVANCED scope and, in addition, covers:

  • preliminary cost estimates for BESS (energy storage),

  • preliminary cost estimates for the AC side (cable routes, substations, grid connection – at feasibility-study accuracy),

  • extension of the model to include wholesale power prices and selected price scenarios.

The analysis shows:

  • whether adding one or more storage systems is economically justified,

  • how BESS / AC configurations impact overall project viability,

  • an indicative relationship between additional CAPEX and potential benefits in terms of revenues / optimisation of plant operation.

This package is aimed at investors and developers who want to approach BESS based on numbers rather than on purely conceptual discussions.

PRO package

Objective: as complete a view of the project as reasonably possible at pre-investment stage.

The PRO package builds on ADVANCED+ and additionally includes:

  • more detailed labour cost estimates on the DC side (based on an assumed schedule and work organisation),

  • inclusion of available geological / geotechnical data,

  • analysis of slope and terrain shape within the plant area,

  • identification of potentially problematic zones (e.g. weak soil areas, significant height differences, difficult logistics).

In the PRO package we always perform a site visit, in order to:

  • verify how well the documentation reflects reality,

  • assess access, internal logistics and possible constraints for construction,

  • better understand risks related to foundations and structures.

This variant is designed for projects approaching an investment decision, where the aim is to refine assumptions and identify risks as far as practical – before significant capital is committed.

Input data and the risks we focus on

When preparing a feasibility study, we base our work on:

  • documentation provided by the client (maps, grid connection conditions, preliminary designs, investor assumptions),

  • available public data (e.g. elevation data, zoning, publicly available information on ground conditions),

  • in the PRO package – findings from the on-site visit.

In the final report we clearly indicate:

  • which assumptions have been used and with what level of accuracy,

  • what we consider to be the key technical and economic risks,

  • which additional investigations and actions we recommend to mitigate those risks (e.g. geotechnical campaign, refinement of grid-connection conditions, environmental checks, additional layout variants).
